I love to try products from smaller companies. Before I give a company the time of day, I confirm the ingredients, quality and the safety the products. Only if I feel that a product is fabulous I will review them for my readers. Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve is a company that makes superb products for humans and for dogs. I have tried the dog products on my girls. Truth be told, I couldn’t resist buying a bunch of products for myself. I did not purchase their deodorant so I will be purchasing that in my next order. All products are cruelty-free, made with natural ingredients. They let you know which products are vegan, certified organic, non-GMO. Chagrin Valley Soap and Salve is a company that prides itself in their strong ethics and superior quality.
Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve has been featured in the media. In January 2015, FOX 8 TV took a trip to the Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve Workshop to see how the products are made. It is unbelievable to see (and use) products that are truly natural and authentic.
Chagrin Valley’s FABULOUS Pet Products:
I was really impressed with their Dog Paw Salve. This product is very light. I is not sticky or greasy. A little bit of this salve goes a long way and is easily absorbed. It is great for dry and cracked paws. It penetrated well as you rub the product onto the paw pads. A great idea it to apply a warm (NOT hot) compress immediately after application and then repeat. This will have a stronger moisturizing effect for dogs with severely dry pads. I have used it as a lip balm for myself as well. The ingredients are great and safe to use on humans.
The essential oils in this salve are safe for dogs and have various properties. Bergamot is a soothing natural anti-fungal and lavender is a natural antibacterial and helps calm itchy skin. Several other herbs and oils make this salve very effective.
Shampoo Bars:
At first I was a bit skeptical about using a shampoo in a bar form. I was surprised how much I liked it. Rubbing the shampoo bar onto wet hair was better than squirting liquid shampoo all over, massaging it in then squirting more. Using the bar felt more convenient. I just massaged it in everywhere. It produced a nice lather. I always shampoo twice. I found it odd that a product that can lather so well can clean without stripping or irritating. That was a pleasant surprise to say the least. The ingredients are simple. No artificial colors, no thickeners, no artificial fragrances no sulfates, and no chemicals. This stuff is as natural and as it gets. It does the job well and is gentle and healthy for (even the most sensitive) dogs. They have three varieties.
Dog Shampoo: Cedarwood Lavender
This formula makes the coat shiny with sunflower oil and shea butter.
Dog Shampoo: Honey & Oats
This formula helps soothe and heal skin that is dry, itchy, irritated, and inflamed with oats, aloe vera, honey and cornstarch.
Dog/Pet Shampoo: Creamy Coconut Milk
This formula conditions and moisturizes with nourishing oils, shea butter, and organic coconut milk.
Fresh Fur Cider Vinegar Rinse Concentrate is a fabulous mixture of raw apple cider vinegar, botanicals, and essential oils. All ingredients are certified organic. This is a concentrate so it is critical that you dilute it as per instructions. This product has tick and flea repelling properties, conditions the coat and is great for the skin (just don’t apply to open sores). I discuss the uses for apple cider vinegar in my article Apple Cider Vinegar for Dogs. The instructions direct you to rinse out the product after application. Personally, whenever I have used apple cider vinegar as a rinse I have always left in to get the most out of the properties, but you can do either method.
