Costco Sold Deadly Treats

Just to let you know, I posted this in 2014 so things might have changed since then.  Canadian news reports are glaring about Costco’s decision to continue to sell dog treats despite the linked between the product and kidney failure and death in dogs who consumed the treats.  Throughout the report, I heard China mentioned several times with regard to the origin of the treats.  The brand, VitaLife indicates that their products are made in Thailand.  I am not sure why there is a discrepancy of where the treats came from, but the unfortunate situation remains regardless. At the end of this article you may click on a link that will bring you to a petition so that we can support our dogs and demand that Costco remove the VitaLife treats (manufactured by Normerica) from their shelves.

Manufacturers don’t test every shipment and obtaining a relatively fresh cadaver that has ingested contaminated food is unlikely to be an easy task.  The cadaver would have needed to ingest new shipments of food and then killed.  By the time the amount of contamination builds up, the shipments would probably already be sent off.  Remember that in the US, manufacturers are permitted to put ingredients into products without letting you know where those ingredients come from.  They are ONLY required to print the location of the manufacturing plant where the product was made.  The FDA was slow at connecting dots in to find melamine and cyanuric acid contamination in pet food products so until the research was properly conducted, thousands of pets died.  Contamination can be a result of deplorable factory conditions and faulty machinery.

If you are angry with Costco’s decision to disregard the dangers that are linked to this product, you may sign a petition.  The petition makes the following plea: “Costco: remove all Normerica dog treats from your shelves until the safety of the company’s products has been fully investigated.” The link is HERE.
