You know those Blue Buffalo commercials comparing their ingredients to Purina’s. Nestlé Purina Petcare was enraged so they filed a lawsuit in 2014 against Blue Buffalo. Look who’s calling the kettle black.
To read more about the lawsuit, you can read my article Blue Buffalo Punished for Lying.
Wilbur-Ellis Feed LLC is a feed and commodity broker that supplies their food product to many pet food manufacturers.
It was discovered that has deliberately supplied inferior ingredients including feather meal (crushed rendered feathers also known as chicken meal, duck meal, and turkey meal) as a protein. Feathers have no nutritional value whatsoever. Furthermore, the feather product was examined in a lab where the material was found to contain highly toxic residues.
It gets worse… This practice has been going on for many years and is rampant in the commercial pet food industry. What makes this case different is thatBlue Buffalo claims to have no by-products in their food while other companies don’t make such claims. Despite being illegal, the use of by-products and ingredients like bone meal and many protein meals are openly engaging in this practice.
Here’s another disturbing thought: There is veterinary prescription diet that contains this ingredient! Dr. Karen Becker provides details in her article Blue Buffalo Gets Its Day in Court – And Then This Happened.
Commercial pet food manufacturers do whatever they can to make the biggest profits. Raw diets are much more expensive – far more expensive because they are not getting their meat from suppliers that use rendered food.
