The standard converson of 7 year equivalent to 1 year and thereafter has been around since the 1950’s. On the average, smaller dogs tend to have longer lifespans than larger dogs. Based on that, the 7 year conversion method is questionable because it doesn’t take that important factor into account. This chart from the AKC takes professional studies of longevity into account.
