A Natural Recipe for Dog Treats for St. Patrick’s Day
Our dogs should not be celebrating this holiday as their human companions, but why not include them in the fun? This is a DIY project for healthy green dog treats in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.
I am clueless when it comes to cooking and baking, but I created a wonderful recipe by collecting recipes and then adding my own personal touches. I thought it would be a nightmare, but it turned out to be a lot of fun.
1 small to medium size carrot
1 cup flour (I prefer organic whole wheat, but the only small bag I could find was organic white unbleached)
2 4oz jars of sweet pea baby food
1/4 cup fresh parsley
Preheat oven at 350
Mix flour and baby food in a bowl
Put the egg (with the shell), carrot, and parsley into a food processor and just grind them all together (I used a blender, but you can use a food processor). You don’t need to go overboard. it doesn’t need to come out smooth.
I used my fingers, but you can use a teaspoon to make small blobswith the batter and place them onto non-stick cookie sheets or trays.
Allow to bake on the top rack or the oven for around 35 to 40 minutes. You might want to check them in 30 minutes. You want them to bake long enough so they are not gooey inside.
I aimed at the green theme of the holiday. I know the treats aren’t pretty or cute by any means. My goal was to create treats that are healthy, green, and yummy for the dogs. They come out a little bit hard on the outside and kinda cake-like on the inside. They did not turn out green so I missed the bus on that one. Surprisingly the dogs LOVED them. Beverly loved it. Even Harriet (who is a bit pickier) loved and Harriet gobbled one up.
